Though the game isn’t technically out yet (the game released in an Early Access form in July of last year), We Happy Few’s psychedelic look and premise are incredibly evocative, though at this point, I’m more interested in its narrative (which developer Compulsion Games says will release with the full version of the game) than its roguelike gameplay.
It seems the film industry agrees, as Variety reports a film based on the game is currently in development. Compulsion has partnered with Dj2 Entertainment (which is also working on the Sleeping Dogs and Sonic the Hedgehog movie) and Gold Circle Entertainment (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Pitch Perfect) for the project. “Our commitment is to make a movie that remains true to the source material, while still surprising fans,” said Dj2 Entertainment’s Dmitri Johnson, who, along with Dan Jevons and Gold Circle’s Paul Brooks, will be produce the film. Dj2’s Stephen Bugaj will serve as executive producer.
No actors or directors have been attached to the project.
Honestly? I’m too upset at having to type the words “Sonic the Hedgehog movie” to have a real take on this.
